Year 13 Art students who are continuing with an Art course Post 18 should focus on detailed observational drawing. You should aim for precision. Include high quality tonal range. You may also contact your Post 18 provider if they are not attending PWS to gather appropriate work.

Read pages 142 -155 of your Biology textbook. You can access this on Kerboodle if you don't have your text book use school code nem7.

Make notes, draw glycolysis pathway and Kreb's cycle from memory.

Answer questions within text and self-mark. Answer questions from pages 158 and 159 and e mail back to me if you would like feedback.

All of the resources that would have been used in class (PowerPoint/worksheets etc) are all on the shared area.

Take a look at a few tutorials on You Tube for respiration - you'll have to be selective as there are so many; Bozeman is always a good start.

The last section of Chapter 24 would have been you designing 15 min lessons to teach each other about the management of areas of the world. So obviously this can’t happen but use the text book pages 306-317 and on-line information to find out about each area instead.

On the PowerPoint for that lesson there are instructions about the key areas of information for each place so use those to base your notes around.

Fashion and Textiles

If you wish to develop your skills around the piece of NEA we were working on then please see below.

Optional work 

1. Research the impact of social, moral and ethical issues on the future of fashion and textiles. Write a detailed account of your findings giving examples and illustrating your work.
2. Research the work of a textile or dance/theatre costume designer eg Sonia Delaunay, Lucienne Day, Leon Bakst, Colleen Attwood. Prepare a detailed and illustrated account of their work in context, including what influenced and inspired them.
3. Work on practical skills. Experiment with fabric manipulation (Pleating, gathering, distorting, dyeing, smocking etc) and use the results to design and create a fashion accessory.

Under ‘normal’ circumstances we would have had about 3 weeks of work left to complete.  Use the AQA textbook to do this.  Below are the remaining topics.  For each section I have put the page numbers you should make notes on, questions you should be asking yourself and finally essay questions/plans to complete.  I would encourage you to look at the primary sources in each section of the textbook to practice technique. The Impact of war, 1939-45. Notes on P171-181

Things to consider:You will not get questions on the events of war i.e. what was invaded when so don’t worry too much about the maps and reference to different battles.What you do need to focus on for this section is the impact that the war had on normal people in Germany.You are trying to assess how far consequences of war such as rationing and bombing impacted the morale of the German people.Additionally, whether there was any reduction in support for the Nazi party at this time.I would consider completing a table which has examples that morale was high as well as low.Consider the impact on different groups in society eg youth, women.Finally, can you identify a difference between attitudes towards the war from the Germany people at the beginning of the war compared to the beginning?What evidence do we have that support for the Nazi Party had fallen away by 1945 and whether this was the same for Hitler’s popularity?

Essays:

• The Nazi regime succeeded in maintaining the morale of the German people throughout the war’
• Military defeats and increasing war casualties were the major reasons for declining morale amongst Germans during the Second World War.
• The Allied bombing offensive against German cities had a limited impact on the ability of the German economy to produce the armaments required by Germany to continue fighting the war’
• The main impact of Allied bombing raids on German cities was to reduce industrial production significantly.

The wartime economy and work of Speer. Notes on P182 – 186

Things to consider: Remind yourself of where the German economy is by 1939, how successfully Goering mobilised the country for war?  Consider why Goering is replaced by Speer in 1942 and who Speer is – what is his background?  You may remember we have talked about Speer before in reference to the Nuremburg Trials and his book the ‘The Good Nazi’.  When considering the economy from 1942 to 45 you simply need to consider how successful Speer was with the German economy at this time.  I would complete a simple table for this of successes and failures.  Any question about the economy at this time has to be considered in the context of the huge amount of pressure the regime was under because of the cost of the war.  Basically would the economy and so the German war effort have collapsed sooner without Speer?

Essays:

• To what extent was Albert Speer responsible for saving the war economy of Nazi Germany
• The German economy was adapted successfully to meet the demands of war before 1945
• Without the appointment of Speer as Armaments Minister in February 1942, German would have collapsed economically

We have looked at the next two sections on the Final Solution and Opposition during the war.  Make sure you have notes on them.

Overview of the Nazi State by 1945. Notes on P201-203

You would be unlikely to get a question on the final collapse of the Nazi State in any exam but this section is invaluable in bringing everything you have learnt to a conclusion.

Things to consider:How popular was the regime and Hitler by 1945?How do you know? What were the weaknesses of the Nazi State?Would Hitler have achieved his 1000 year Reich if he hadn’t been so determined to go to war? What was the relationship between support for the Volksgemeinschaft and the use of terror between 1933 and 1945?

Essays:

• To what extent did the Nazi Regime bring about a social revolution in Germany in the years 1933-45
• To what extent did resistance, throughout the course of the Third Reich, succeed in weakening the support for the Nazi regime?
